9 chalets for between 6 and 16 guests
Probably the most famous ski resort in the world with 300 km of marked runs and 90 lifts Snow-sure Val d’Isère, together with her younger sister Tignes, make up ‘L’Espace Killy’, one of the best ski domains on the planet. Possibly the best snow record in Europe, a massive 10 miles from end to end and great bars and restaurants mean that many skiers wouldn’t even consider visiting anywhere else. The ski area is named after local hero Jean Claude Killy who, having learnt to ski in Val d’Isère, went on to win medals in nearly every category in the 1968 Winter Olympics. However, mere mortals are not neglected: free lifts are available for those making their initial forays into the sport, and there are glorious intermediate runs with easy access in both Val d’Isère and Tignes. A success story all round.
Cementing our relationship with the resort Val d’Isère is steadily building upon its reputation, with new bars, new lifts, new shops and attractive new accommodation appearing every season. Seeing what a reputation the resort already had, Le Ski tested the waters here in the 90s, with the charming Du Berger chalet. We were then lucky enough to find a large area of land (we did pay for it!) on which we built 6 of our own chalets, which celebrated their first season in 1999. Known as the ‘Cacholet chalets’, their design is modern, comfortable and spacious, with excellent facilities – ensuite bathrooms, balconies, log fireplaces, good soundproofing and masses of storage space. Taking them to the next level in 2005, we installed our extremely popular outdoor hot tub.
Very popular stunning new chalets We were delighted to add two absolutely beautiful chalets to our Val d'Isère programme last year. The stunning Pierre de Compia and La Bouclia both sleep 8 and are next to each other in Le Cret, one of the most sought after areas of Val d’Isère. They are chalets to take us into the next generation.
Local knowledge goes a long way Our ski guides will be able to take you to some of the most interesting, fun and challenging terrain in the area. Being on the slopes 6 days a week means that our guides can head straight for the best-kept snow, avoid any bottlenecks and show you the sumptuous range of mountain cuisine that L’Espace Killy has to offer. Perhaps the infamous ‘Solaise’ bumps for starters, followed by a trip to Le Fornet via the unusual ‘up and over’ ‘Lessières’ lift for panoramic views and peaceful runs. To really deserve the après-ski, last run of the day has got to be the 1992 Men’s Olympic downhill ‘La Face’ – just imagine the crowds cheering you on! Val d’Isère also has acres of incredible off-piste and we recommend that you hire a local professional to show you areas that you may never find on the ski map. And of course, our chalet hosts have the lowdown on all the bars!.
A little digestif after your meal? Val d’Isère is renowned for its extensive collection of restaurants, bars and nightclubs. Whether you want to dance the night away to a live band, prop up the coffee bar with a magazine, sip the finest Burgundy or vote for the best wipeout of the day over a couple of pints, there’s a bar for every mood in Val d’Isère. Getting from one end of Val d’Isère to another is easy, with free, regular buses running between La Daille and Le Fornet. That’s if you can tear yourself away from our cosy chalets after a hard day on the hill.
